When we say #LETSLIVECLEAN we mean it
From the way we do business to how we source our ingredients to our war on single-use plastic – we’re here to drive change, push for better, and empower others to do the same.
Making the right choice. Even if it’s the hardest choice.
OUR INGREDIENTS
Nature is our guide in everything we do. Even when we’ve got our lab coats on. We use ingredients that can use less energy, less water and fewer materials to create cleaning products that are effective.
OUR FIGHT AGAINST PLASTIC
Ecover was born from seeing first-hand the devastating effect that phosphates from laundry and dishwashing products were having on aquatic life. Now we’ve got an arguably bigger challenge on our hands – facing up to the world’s over-reliance on single-use plastic. We want to be a role model to show the way forward for manufacturers like us to use better, more sustainable types of plastic and reduce our ‘plastic footprint’. To do this, we need to work out how to ‘close the loop’ by recovering and reusing as much packaging as possible and not let it go to waste. So we’re stepping up our efforts to find new materials and help more people join the refillution by reusing bottles they already own.
OUR MANUFACTURING
Our factory in Malle, Belgium, is certified Platinum zero-waste by TRUE. We constantly strive to make it as environmentally responsible as possible – diverting 99.1% of our solid waste away from landfill, incineration and the environment, by reuse, recycling and reduction projects.
OUR SOURCING
We buy local whenever we can. And if we can’t find what we need near our factory in Malle, Belgium, then we’ll look for producers based in Europe, keeping carbon emissions from transport as low as possible. We also source smart by trying to match the size of our orders to our suppliers’ trucks, reducing the number of deliveries needed. More efficiency, fewer emissions. 100% of the palm oil and palm kernel oil we source is certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) ensuring that our suppliers’ plantations and practices don’t contribute to deforestation. We’re thinking up sustainable alternatives to substantially reduce our need for palm oil and palm kernel oil in the long run.
OUR FRAGRANCE
All our fragrances are at least 50% naturally derived. Just look at the upcycled rose petals and apricots in our powerful laundry capsules – giving a second life to materials that would otherwise be discarded. We always make sure that even the synthetic components biodegrade, rigorously assessing each one against our environmental and health standards. From the laundry liquids you buy in the supermarket to our specialist products you’ll find in independent health food stores. We believe in offering fragrances that delight every nose. So our in-house fragrance experts carefully craft unique fragrance ‘pairings’ for each product in our Ecover core range. And for those of us with sensitive skin, Ecover Zero is our specially formulated range that contains no added fragrance at all.
OUR DESIGN
We want to prove to the world that packaging can be truly sustainable in the future – and look elegant too. So whenever we design something, we start from these core design principles.
1. LESS IS MORE
We use as little packaging as we can get away with. And we make sure that the materials we do use are as recyclable as possible.
2. MAKE IT AS USEFUL AS POSSIBLE
We think endlessly about how people use our products, what’s important to them and where they get used. Aiming for the perfect pairing of function and style.
3. BE DISTINCTIVE, THOUGHTFUL AND MODERN
Great packaging should enhance living spaces, not clutter them. By paying closer attention to form, we also create products that feel refreshingly modern.
