30 brilliant brains came together at The Refillution Hackathon, armed with a load of post-it notes, and unlimited coffee to tackle 3 key challenges from The Refill Report
📌 CHALLENGE 1/3
How can we CHANGE BEHAVIOUR to accelerate a cultural shift to refilling?
🧐 The Problem
We know heading to the shops with young children can be stressful. At the same time how do we engage the adults in ‘refilling’?
💡 The Idea
Create an in store experience for children and parents to embrace refilling, through fun hands-on, time-consuming, messy-at-times refilling.
Parents get an activity with their children and children get to have fun. Both begin reusing and refilling.
💁🏽 Who’s it for
Parents and the refillers of tomorrow – children.
Can you see the idea working?

Just emailed to ask why I am unable to refill any Ecover bottle with any of your products my local shop won’t allow me to put laundry liquid into a very clean Ecover toilet cleaning bottle.🤷🏼♂️ 🤯
So this is a great idea….. but I would always want to raise the question with the children and parents about reducing the plastic within the system rather than having to purchase specific bottles so you will be able to refill later
Hello Brian, thank you for taking the time to read our blog and comment, we do agree. However, although some retailers may accept the use of different bottles (amazing), there are a few reasons why other may not (not so good). These include;
1. Difficult for shop keepers to charge for the product if the bottle you choose to refill isn’t one of our standard sizes.
2. Health and safety standards. If someone were, for example, to ingest some of our products by accident, it is imperative that they are able to access the information you find on the back of our bottles.
So, if you were to go to another store (if near by), you may well be able to refill using the different bottle. 👍
Hi there,
My nearest refil point is nearly 10 miles away. Is there anyway You can get pouch’s for me to buy use and send back for a refil. I love your products but not so much the amount of plastic I am using still. I am trying to give up plastic using ur products I am still buying more plastic every time. Or can you expand a refill station to my area.
Hey Donna,
Thank you for taking the time to comment on our blog, it is wonderful to hear you love our products 💚
We would love to have more refill stations near to where you live, however we don’t decide where the refill stations are. It is the choice of store owners and retailers. But, if you let them know you’d like one and ask them to get in touch with us we would be happy to help them get started 👊
We also do refill offerings online that can be delivered to your door. Head over to Ecover Direct to take a look!
Thanks
Team Ecover
I recently bought the refill mint toilet cleaner presuming it would pour into the smaller bottle. However this is not possible, so now I have a heavy unsuitable container used trying to clean my loo. Where can I find a small bottle that can be refilled?
Hello Donna,
Thank you for the messaging and joining the #Refillution! Can I ask, what bottle are you using to decant the refill mint toilet cleaner? 🤘
Please tell me if you plan to do a smaller range of bottles that I can decant from a 5ltr container. I have a campervan, so space and weight are a factor, and for short adventures, I don’t want to carry large bottles that are only a quarter full and take up space. Smaller bottles, no larger than hand size, would be ideal.
Hello Kiki, it’s great to hear from you. Can I ask, what 5l container are you trying to decant? 💚
I’ve been pondering this problem too….there are smaller shops starting up refilling and encouraging own use containers but not apparently with your products yet….maybe the solution is to encourage smaller outlets…and whilst the idea of children enjoying messy play is nice, I think supermarket shopping is not the right environment….most of us do not wish to linger!
Hi there. My local refill shop do not stock you and will not because they say your products are available on Amazon (seller = ECOVER UK) and at most supermarkets for the same price they can get it from your selected resellers. They’d have to sell for zero margin to sell at a competitive price – so they sell other ECO UK made brands instead. The shop is amazing and I appreciate their answer. You market yourself as as an eco brand and have a huge refilling campaign – yet there are not any zero waste shops I’ve been in or contacted that stock you. Since your refill campaign is what initially drew me to your brand and you have such a monstrous campaign about refilling – why do you not supply your refill boxes directly to Zero Waste Refill Shops at prices they can make a margin on at a competitive price? Perhaps is this something that is in the pipeline? With your whole brand built around the concept of refilling – you’re not available in any of my closest refill shops?
Thank you
Hello, thank you for taking the time to message us 💚 Ecover refills are stocked in 700 stores across the UK which can be found here https://www.ecover.com/where-can-i-refill/. We set the recommended retail price but it is at the discretion of the retailer to state their final price. Thank you
